In short stories, you won’t have pages upon pages to describe intricate settings. But with carefully chosen words and vivid imagery, you can immerse readers into your world within just a few lines.
Consider this description from Ernest Hemingway’s “Hills Like White Elephants”:
“The hills across the valley of the Ebro were long and white…”
In one succinct sentence, Hemingway transports us to Spain without explicitly stating it.
The Punchy Ending
