Hey there, my fellow Gen Z’s! Sophie here, your favourite fitness fanatic and self-proclaimed travel guru. I’ve swapped my usual spot on the yoga mat for a corner of the coffee shop today, armed with a green smoothie (I promise it tastes better than it looks) and ready to spill some secrets about city breaks for us fitness lovers.
Let’s kick things off in my backyard! Sydney isn’t just about sipping flat whites and snapping pictures of the Opera House. It’s also a haven for those who like their holidays served with a side of sweat. Start your day with a sunrise jog along Bondi Beach before tackling the famous Bondi to Coogee walk – trust me, the views are worth every step. For an indoor workout, try one of Sydney’s boutique fitness studios such as Barry’s Bootcamp. Just don’t forget to reward yourself afterwards with some superfood-packed brunch – you’re on holiday after all!
If hiking is your thing, then Cape Town has got you covered. The city is home to Table Mountain which offers numerous trails for all fitness levels. Fancy something more challenging? Try Lion’s Head hike at sunrise or sunset – just remember to take plenty of water! And if you’re into surfing (or keen to learn), hit up Muizenberg Beach where you’ll find surf schools aplenty.
New York might be known as the city that never sleeps but it could also be dubbed the city that never stops working out. From running in Central Park to cycling along the Hudson River, there’s no shortage of ways to stay active. Plus, NYC is home to some of the world’s top fitness studios – think SoulCycle and CrossFit NYC. And let’s not forget about those famous New York bagels for a post-workout treat (balance is key, right?).
Tokyo may be one of the busiest cities in the world but it also offers plenty of opportunities for fitness lovers. Start your day with a jog around Imperial Palace Gardens or try your hand at martial arts with a traditional judo lesson. For something completely different, why not join a group workout at one of Tokyo’s many outdoor exercise parks? It’s a great way to immerse yourself in local culture while working up a sweat.
Last but certainly not least we have Barcelona – a city that blends urban life with beach vibes perfectly. Get your heart rate up by cycling around this bike-friendly city or take part in an outdoor yoga class at Barceloneta Beach. For those who prefer indoor workouts, check out WeWorkOut, one of Barcelona’s top boutique fitness studios.
So there you have it folks – five cities that offer more than just sightseeing. They provide ample opportunities to break a sweat and keep up with our fitness routines even while on holiday! I hope this list inspires you as much as it does me – now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to finish this smoothie before my next spin class starts!
Remember, wherever you go, pack your trainers and a can-do attitude. Happy travelling and even happier working out!
