Dear fellow Gen Z’s, let me take you back to a time when I was still new to the world of fitness. Picture this: A 19-year-old Sophie, armed with only a pair of worn-out sneakers and an unflattering gym outfit, stepping into a local gym for the first time. The experience was as intimidating as trying to understand the latest TikTok dance trend on my first attempt. Fast-forward five years, I’ve now swapped that daunting gym environment for the comfort of my own living room (or hotel room), thanks to my arsenal of fitness apps.
Fitness apps have become our generation’s personal trainers, nutritionists and motivators all in one compact package. They’re like having your own Chris Hemsworth or Kayla Itsines in your pocket – minus the Australian accent (unless you’re using their apps, of course).
These digital platforms offer workout routines that can be done anywhere, anytime – perfect for those who are always on-the-go or travelling. You no longer need to worry about missing out on your fitness routine because you’re away from home or don’t have access to a gym. With these apps, every place can become your workout space!
Now comes the tricky part – choosing which app is right for you. It’s like being in a candy store full of free trials and subscription options! But fear not, dear reader; I’m here to help guide you through this maze.
1) Identify Your Goals:
Your choice should align with what you want to achieve. If weight loss is your primary goal, consider apps that offer high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts. If you’re more into mindfulness and stress management, yoga or meditation apps might be a better fit.
2) Consider Your Experience Level:
Are you a newbie like 19-year-old Sophie or are you an experienced fitness enthusiast? Choose an app that matches your experience level to prevent injuries and ensure progressive growth.
3) Check the Features:
Look for apps that offer features like progress tracking, reminders, personalised workout plans, and dietary advice. These will help keep you motivated and on track with your fitness journey.
If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me about my favourite fitness apps, I’d probably be able to afford a lifetime subscription to all of them! Here are some of my go-to’s:
1) MyFitnessPal:
This is like the Swiss Army knife of fitness apps. It offers everything from workout routines to meal planning and tracking. Plus, it has an extensive food database which is handy when trying out local cuisines while travelling.
2) Nike Training Club:
This app offers over 185 free workouts ranging from strength and endurance to mobility and yoga. The best part? You can download the workouts for offline use – perfect for those remote travel destinations.
3) Headspace:
If there’s one thing travelling can bring along (apart from amazing Instagram photos), it’s stress. Headspace provides guided meditations to help manage stress levels wherever you are in the world.
Fitness doesn’t have to take a backseat just because you’re away from home or your regular gym. With the right fitness app, you can maintain your workout routine and even take it to new heights. So here’s to embracing technology and making every corner of the world our gym!
Remember, dear Gen Z’s, fitness is not just about looking good for the ‘gram (though that’s a nice bonus). It’s about feeling good and taking care of your health – one workout at a time.
So go on, download that app and let’s get sweating! And remember, if 19-year-old Sophie could do it, so can you.
