Hey there, fellow wanderlusts! It’s your go-to globe-trotting guru, Sophie here. As some of you might know from my Insta stories (if you’re not following me yet, what are you even doing?), I recently embarked on a solo trip across Europe. Yes, just me, my backpack, and occasionally a slice of pizza in Italy or a baguette in France – because who am I to resist carbs?
One question that kept popping up in my DMs was how I managed to stay safe and healthy during my travels. So today, we’re going to dive into the nitty-gritty of solo travel and fitness. Buckle up folks; it’s going to be an adventurous ride!
The first rule of solo travel is always safety first. No matter how exciting the adventure may seem, it’s crucial to ensure your personal safety.
No one wants their Eurotrip turning into an episode of ‘Taken.’ So before you jet off, make sure to research about your destination thoroughly – understand its culture, laws, safety concerns etc. Websites like Smartraveller provide excellent resources for this.
I’m talking about local emergency numbers, embassy contact details and trusted friends or family back home. Save these contacts in your phone AND write them down somewhere safe – because technology can sometimes fail us at the most inconvenient times.
Your intuition is your best friend when travelling solo. If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Trust your gut and don’t be afraid to say no or leave a situation that makes you uncomfortable.
Now, let’s talk about staying healthy on the road. Because nothing ruins a trip faster than getting sick.
Travelling doesn’t mean you have to give up on your fitness routine. Explore the city by foot or rent a bike instead of using public transport. Take advantage of hotel gyms or do a quick YouTube workout in your room (I’ve done this more times than I can count!). Remember, every bit counts!
I know, I know – those croissants in Paris are irresistible! But try to maintain a balanced diet while travelling. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables and lean proteins in your meals. And remember to stay hydrated – especially if you’re exploring sunny destinations.
This might seem like common sense, but with all the excitement of exploring a new place, we often neglect our sleep schedule. Aim for 7-9 hours per night to keep your energy levels up and boost your immune system.
Solo travel is an incredible experience – it’s liberating, empowering and downright fun! But remember folks, safety and health should always be top priority because as they say – health is wealth!
So there you have it – Sophie’s guide to staying safe and healthy while globetrotting solo! Now go forth and conquer the world (but don’t forget to send me pictures!).
