Hey there, fabulous Gen Z’s! Sophie here. You know, the one who still owns a collection of Harry Potter books and can’t seem to keep a plant alive for more than a week? Yep, that’s me.
Today, I want to talk about something we all love – vacations. Ah yes, those blissful days of freedom where our biggest concern is whether we should have a margarita or piña colada by the pool. But as much as we love letting loose on vacation, it can be challenging to maintain our fitness routines.
So, how do you stay committed to your fitness goals while simultaneously stuffing your face with all the delicious food your holiday destination has to offer? Fear not; I’ve got some tips that might just help you out.
We live in an age where there’s an app for everything – from finding the nearest vegan restaurant (shout-out to my fellow plant-eaters) to tracking the phases of the moon (don’t judge me). So why not use technology to our advantage?
MyFitnessPal, Nike Training Club, and Seven Minute Workout are just a few examples of apps that can help you stay active on vacation without requiring any equipment. They provide workout routines that you can perform in your hotel room or even on the beach if you’re feeling adventurous!
Who said exercise had to be boring? Sightseeing is an excellent way to stay active on vacation. You get to explore new places, immerse yourself in different cultures, and burn calories all at the same time – it’s a win-win situation!
Try walking or cycling instead of using public transport whenever possible. Not only will this help you stay fit, but it also gives you a chance to discover hidden gems that you might miss otherwise.
I’m not going to sit here and tell you not to indulge in that mouth-watering gelato or those heavenly churros because let’s face it – I’d be lying. Vacations are about indulging and enjoying yourself.
However, the key is moderation. Try balancing out your indulgences with healthier choices. For instance, if you know you’re going out for a big dinner, opt for a lighter lunch or breakfast. And remember, staying hydrated is just as important as eating well – especially when you’re sipping cocktails by the pool!
Vacations don’t have to be all about lounging by the pool (although that does sound pretty good right now). Why not plan some active activities? Things like hiking, snorkelling, surfing or even dancing can keep you moving and make your vacation more memorable.
Remember when I tried salsa dancing in Cuba and ended up looking like a flailing octopus? Well, despite my lack of rhythm, I had an absolute blast and burnt off quite a few margaritas in the process!
We often focus so much on physical fitness that we forget about our mental health. But guess what? Your mental health is just as important – if not more so.
Use your vacation as an opportunity to unwind and de-stress. Whether it’s through meditation, yoga, reading a good book, or simply enjoying the sunset, taking care of your mental health can do wonders for your overall wellbeing.
So there you have it, my fellow Gen Z’s – a few tips on how to keep up with your fitness routine on vacation. Remember, it’s all about balance. So go ahead and enjoy that piña colada by the pool – just maybe follow it up with a brisk walk along the beach or a quick workout in your hotel room.
Until next time, stay fit and fabulous!
