The Best Travel Destinations for Health Enthusiasts – A Gen Z Guide

Hello, my fellow health enthusiasts! It’s your favourite 24-year-old writer, Sophie, coming at you with another article. Today, we’re swapping our yoga mats and green smoothies for passports as we dive into the world of travel. But hold on to your gym shoes because this isn’t just any travel guide. This is a guide curated specially for us – the health-conscious Gen Zs.

1. Bali, Indonesia

First up on our list is Bali, a paradise for wellness seekers like us. With its lush landscapes, serene beaches and an abundance of yoga retreats, it’s no wonder that Bali tops our list. I once spent two weeks in Ubud (the cultural heart of Bali), practising yoga and indulging in vegan delicacies that were as Instagrammable as they were delicious.

2. Kyoto, Japan

If you’re big on mindfulness and meditation like me (remember when I spent a whole month meditating for an hour daily?), then Kyoto is your go-to destination. The city boasts over 1600 Buddhist temples and numerous Zen gardens where you can meditate to your heart’s content. Plus, Japanese cuisine is known for its health benefits so you can enjoy sushi guilt-free!

3. Costa Rica

A trip to Costa Rica is like stepping into a nature documentary – only better because you get to be part of it! With its diverse flora and fauna, Costa Rica offers ample opportunities for hiking, surfing and other outdoor activities that will give your fitness tracker a run for its money.

Fitness Tip:

Schedule some downtime between activities to avoid burnout; remember, our goal is to enjoy our holiday while staying active, not exhaust ourselves.

4. Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen isn’t just about beautiful architecture and Hygge. It’s also one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world! So why not ditch your gym’s stationary bike and cycle around this charming city instead? I did that once and ended up burning more calories than I would have in a spin class (plus, I got to see some amazing sights).

5. Chiang Mai, Thailand

Last but definitely not least on our list is Chiang Mai. This Thai city is home to numerous Muay Thai gyms where you can learn Thailand’s traditional martial art while getting a full-body workout. Trust me; it’s way more fun than doing burpees!

Travel Tip:

If you’re planning on joining a Muay Thai camp, make sure to pack comfortable workout clothes and a good pair of boxing gloves.

In this fast-paced world where burnout is all too common (remember my article on dealing with burnout?), it’s important for us health enthusiasts to find ways of maintaining our wellness routine even while travelling. So whether you’re into yoga, meditation, outdoor activities or martial arts, there’s a destination out there catered for your wellness needs.

Remember, travel isn’t just about ticking places off your bucket list; it’s also an opportunity to explore new ways of keeping fit and healthy. So pack your bags (don’t forget your reusable water bottle), put on your travel playlist (I recommend adding ‘Eye of the Tiger’ for motivation) and embark on an adventure that will satisfy both your wanderlust and health goals.

Stay tuned for my next article where I’ll share my top tips for staying healthy while travelling. Until then, safe travels and stay healthy!
